Clivia miniata

DESCRIPTION

Clivia is a herbaceous plant used to indoor climates that does not usually reach 50 cm in height. It has fleshy, evergreen leaves and large orange flowers that appear in February/March.

Curiosities: The name "Clivia" is a tribute to the English Duchess of Northumberland named Lady Charlotte Florentine Clive, who was the first noblewoman to grow this plant in her garden in England.

CARE

Temperature: It is not very resistant to frost, the optimum growing temperature being 21 °C, perfect for a house or a patio when the weather is good. However, in summer, when temperatures rise, it requires a mild and cool climate.

Light: This herbaceous plant is used to living in shady areas. Wherever you place it (outdoors if you live in a temperate climate and indoors if it is rather cold) it should not be directly exposed to the sun's rays. At no time should you allow it to be exposed to direct sunlight, as you will notice a general decline and burns on its leaves.

Watering: We must distinguish between the flowering stage and the rest of the vegetative growth. During flowering, watering should be once a week, taking care not to flood the substrate. It is sensitive to drainage problems and water accumulation. It is better to under-water than over-water. As for the rest of the season, in winter, simply check that the soil does not dry out excessively and add water when the substrate becomes caked.

Watering: Every 30 days in spring and summer, every 90 days in autumn and winter.

Transplanting: Every two years, or when its size exceeds the pot.
